Friends-KC Works
One-on-One Relationship
Research has proven that the single most important factor that fosters resiliency in vulnerable children is a caring and consistent relationship with an adult.
Long-Term Commitment
There are no quick fixes. We are committed to our children for the long haul from the first grade through high school graduation.
Serving the Most Vulnerable Children
We identify and select children most in danger of school failure, gang involvement, abuse, teenage pregnancy, and criminal behavior for our program.
Paid Professionals
Our professional, full-time mentors are provided ongoing training, living wage salaries and full benefits, giving them the support they need so they can fully focus on the needs of the children.
Positive Expectations
Our children will succeed because we believe in them! And our children grow to believe in themselves.
Manageable Numbers
We emphasize high quality, one-on-one time spent between Friend and child. Each Friend works with no more than ten children. Each child receives four hours of mentoring per week.
Experiences = Opportunities
We help each of our children reach their unique potential by exploring their talents and interests while teaching critical life skills.
Early Intervention
We begin working with children by the time they reach first grade, when their hearts and minds are open.
Comprehensive Approach
We work closely with the child’s family members, their teachers, and their neighborhood resources to build a bridge of support that lasts a lifetime.
Evaluation Based
We work with independent, third party evaluators to assess our programs and measure success based on significant outcomes.
